Your next PC will likely run on AI agents

PCWorld

PCWorld reports that AI is evolving beyond simple chatbots to become autonomous agents that directly control PC functions and applications. Major tech companies are developing agentic AI systems, including Anthropic's Claude tools, OpenAI's upcoming superapp, and Google's Gemini Mac app with desktop intelligence features. This shift toward AI agents managing tasks like software development and data analysis represents a fundamental change in how users will interact with their computers. Remember when ChatGPT was just an AI chatbox that sat on your desktop? That was, like, so December.

4 Clever Tricks That Make It Worth Switching to Proton Mail

WIRED

Proton Mail is an appealing alternative to Gmail, Outlook, and Apple Mail. It also comes with advanced privacy and productivity features, including a way to manage newsletter overload. There's no shortage of choice when it comes to email apps, and given that Google, Microsoft, and Apple all offer perfectly capable email services free of charge, the less well-known alternatives can often get largely ignored. It's quicker and easier to just stick with the defaults. However, if you do take time to look at some of the smaller email platforms that are available, you'll find plenty in the way of useful features.

Microsoft revamps the Copilot app for Windows 11, makes it truly native

Microsoft has once again made changes to Copilot, with the new version now being delivered to Windows 11 Insiders. The redesign is meant to rethink the experience from the ground up, and that means Copilot is now a native app that's directly integrated into the operating system. According to Windows Latest, initial testers say the new Copilot Windows 11 app works even better than the ChatGPT desktop app. This is mainly due to the fact that Copilot works and responds with almost no delays and requires much less memory. Microsoft has redeveloped the Copilot app from scratch, utilizing Windows technologies like XAML and WinUI.

How to use tasks and reminders inside ChatGPT

Popular Science

We've seen numerous new features added to ChatGPT in recent months, including updated models, web search capabilities, and the ability to remember what you say to it--and the latest software upgrade added to the AI bot by OpenAI makes it more useful as a general-purpose digital assistant. Beginning in beta form, and available initially to paying subscribers--the feature will reach everyone eventually, OpenAI says--ChatGPT Tasks lets you request the AI chatbot perform actions regularly on an automated schedule, or remind you about something in the future. Here's everything you need to know about it. "In this early beta, you can create scheduled tasks that enable ChatGPT to run automated prompts and proactively reach out to you on a scheduled basis," explains OpenAI. Tasks are available on the web, in the mobile apps, and in the macOS desktop app; OpenAI says the feature will make it to the Windows desktop app soon.

ChatGPT's desktop app finally comes to Windows, with features missing

PCWorld

Even though Microsoft is a heavy investor in OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT chose to first release the AI chatbot's desktop app on macOS before Windows back in May of this year. Now, the wait is over for Windows users. The ChatGPT desktop app is finally available on Windows, but with an important caveat: this is an "early version" for paid subscribers who are part of ChatGPT's Plus, Team, Enterprise, or Edu plans. Once you install the app, all you need to do is press the Alt Space keyboard shortcut to launch a new conversation with ChatGPT. The desktop app has access to OpenAI's latest AI models, and you can perform all the core tasks you'd expect from ChatGPT, including asking it questions, having it analyze images, and uploading files to it.
